2006
In 2006, the Sail for Charity team set themselves a challenge - to perform well during Cowes Week, and to raise as much money as possible for the chosen charity Sail4Cancer.
Sail4cancer helps those suffering or bereaved from cancer to enjoy life to the full by taking part in, or financially benefiting from, sailing activities - giving them a positive focus to create a distraction from the daily misery and pain that some of these families and especially youngsters endure. Their work is of huge benefit to all who are lucky enough to receive sailing opportunities or funding from this organisation.
At the outset, we hoped there would be fun, excitement, while expecting there might be the occasional trauma. But as the week went by, a tremendous team spirit got the crew through the worst (and best) the week can throw at them. The weather was not kind, and the first few days were tough. But we got through the week with a reasonable result for a first attempt - and we learned a heck of a lot along the way!
Additional to the generous Corporate Sponsorship secured by many, each of the crew raised personal sponsorship, which enabled us to make a very significant donation - a total of £6,300 plus gift aid edging the final figure closer towards £7,000 - a great result, which will benefit those that Sail4Cancer aim to help.
