At 1240hrs yesterday Greg Conary (our cowes nav) and Robert Govier (our cowes main trimmer) set sail from USA to deliver Greg's Beneteau 42s7 across the atlantic to its new home in East Cowes - they, and a crew of 6, will be delivering the boat back to the uk via a number of legs in the transat ARC race - known for its treacherous waters and rough crossings coming from West to East! Sadly currently they are under engine due to lack of wind after a thunderstorm but greg is hopeful to ditch the diesel genoa and go for more conventional wind power shortly ….
They will be joined on various legs by Dean and Lucy (cowes 07 crew) and also Dave Mason (cowes 07 crew)
For those of you who are interested their progress can be tracked via http://www.kemahportal.com/ by clicking on the Eclipse link. Robert is in charge of IT and electronics on board and hence has the job of updating their location, BLOG and commentary whilst under way ….
They are due back into cowes around about the 23rd June and hopefully will participate in lap of honour by way of the Round the Island race - clearly depending on weather, arrival dates and state of boat and crew when they return!!!
